SSP
I went with my church to a service known as the Sierra Service Project(ssp) during the week of July 31-August 7. I did not know what to expect since I had never been to ssp, so I went to the Big Pine Casino open-minded. As it turns out, there is a whole lot more to ssp than working on houses. Since we were the last week to work on the houses for the summer, we got to see the final products and results. My group, the JEDI(Jesus enthusiasts decking out indians)consisted of (Jerry, Nancy, Ryan, Hilary, Ashley, Helen and me) and we all got along and worked well together. Jerry said that we were all like puzzle pieces to a puzzle and we all fit right together. Since we were the last week, I thought that we would have to paint, which I did not want to do, but would have done it if needed, but instead we got to finish up a deck of a house. The pictures below show our deck before and after we had worked on it. I had a great time at SSP and hope that I will have a chance next year to go again. After we left SSP, our church group went to June lake and Stayed in the June Lake Motel. When we got their, we decided to go swiming in the near by Gull Lake. There was a rope swing that most of us were swinging off into the water, and Tom, Kelsey and Karly all got injured. Tom let go to avoid hitting the tree, and fell into the shallow water where there were sharp rocks and injured his foot and the whole side of his body. Karly got injured after stepping on a rock that punctured her heel, and Kelsey was the most badly injured. She was swinging off of the rope swing and let go too early and her heel got cut open. So, our church decided it would be best to head back to the motel. Soon after arriving at the motel, Kelsey started to get really cold and was in lots of pain, so she went to the hospital to get stitches. The next day, we began our journey back to where we started. We made a few food stops and we even stopped at Manzanar. Finally we made it home, just so I could leave for Lake Lopez, two days later
